The Parochial Church Council (PCC) is the elected body that works with the Parish Priest to run St Wilfrid’s. Its principal purpose, as set out in church law, is to “promote in the parish the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical”.
What the PCC does
In practice the PCC looks after the life and work of the parish: our worship, our mission, our work with children, the church building and hall, our finances and our giving. It meets several times a year, and the minutes are available for anyone to read – please ask the PCC Secretary.
Much of the detailed work is done by sub-committees, each reporting back to the full council:

Annual Parochial Church Meeting
All members of the congregation are warmly welcome at our Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM), normally held in the spring after the Sunday service. At the APCM the churchwardens and members of the PCC are elected, and the work of the church over the past year is presented in our Annual Report. Notices of the meeting are published in the News section.
The Electoral Roll
Joining the church electoral roll gives you a democratic say in the running of St Wilfrid’s. Membership of the roll entitles you to:
- vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting,
- stand for election to the PCC, and
- stand for election as an officer of the PCC, including churchwarden, treasurer, secretary or electoral roll officer.
Anyone aged 16 or over who is baptised and either lives in the parish or has worshipped regularly at St Wilfrid’s for six months can apply. Complete the application form and hand it to the Electoral Roll Officer or one of the churchwardens.
