Whether you are visiting for the first time, have just moved to Parklands or are coming back to church after a long time away, you will find a warm welcome at St Wilfrid’s.
We are the Church of England parish church for Parklands in Chichester – a friendly, mixed congregation of all ages. Our main service is the Parish Eucharist every Sunday at 10.00am, with Junior Church for children, followed by tea, coffee and conversation in the church hall. You don’t need to know what to do or when to stand or sit: everything is in the service book, and someone will always be happy to help.
Marking life’s milestones
The church is here for everyone who lives in the parish at the most important moments of life. Please get in touch with the Parish Priest – there is no question too small to ask.
Weddings
If you live in the parish, or have a qualifying connection with it, you can be married at St Wilfrid’s. We will help you plan a service that is personal to you, prepare for married life together and arrange the banns. Couples who have already married elsewhere may also like to have a Service of Blessing, or renew their vows at a special anniversary.
Baptism
People of every age are welcomed into the church family through Baptism (sometimes called Christening). Baptisms usually take place during or after our Sunday service. We will meet with you beforehand to talk about what the service means and the promises made by parents and godparents.
Confirmation
Confirmation is the moment when young people and adults make the promises of their baptism their own and are prayed for by the Bishop. A short course of preparation is offered whenever there are candidates – please let us know if you are interested.
First Communion
Children who have been baptised can be prepared to receive Holy Communion, usually from around the age of seven. Families are helped to prepare together, and the First Communion itself is a joyful celebration for the whole parish.
Funerals
The parish clergy can help you plan a funeral or memorial service at St Wilfrid’s or at the crematorium, whether or not your loved one came to church. We will visit you at home, help you choose readings, prayers and music, and continue to support you afterwards. Bereavement support is available for anyone who would value it.
